The situation in Israel
In Israel, the situation is still not clear in terms of waste separation for recycling. However, it should be noted positively that the increasing awareness is expressed in the fact that every child now knows that recycling is a vital and very important process in protecting the environment. The recycling department takes care of the extinction of raw materials and natural resources and reduces the damage caused to the environment during the production process.
However, even though Israeli citizens are encouraged to do the recycling (especially in the area of bottles that we seem to have adopted warmly), there is still no significant change in our way of life. The issue of awareness of the cycle is gaining momentum and constant maintenance from the government and the various authorities, and is trying to reach the entire population of the country, and here we can say with pride that our situation is successful and adapted to the general trend prevailing in the world today.
The statistics show that 75% -87% of the waste in Israel is not recycled and therefore the cost of burying all this waste is more than NIS 1 billion. To illustrate, the potential profit from the recycling process is between NIS 500,000 and NIS 1.5 billion, ie, an estimated profit of NIS 2 billion in total. Another advantage inherent in the recycling process is the option to significantly increase the number of jobs in Israel – between five and 10,000 new jobs.
The situation in the world
The process of recycling has already gained a permanent status in the world, with many countries receiving support from the government, which can amount to fines for not properly separating the waste (Japan). This is also the case in countries where menstruation is not yet part of the daily thinking process when there is a trend of progress and development that encourages recycling by making various cycle instruments accessible and raising awareness among the public.
Facing the future
In order to increase the number of refractors drastically today it is customary to invest in three main channels: increasing supervision, increasing awareness and increasing the accessibility of various recycling facilities. This method has proven to be effective around the world and in Israel the example of the success of the model is in bottles. Over the past decade we have witnessed a significant increase in bottle turnover due to the extensive retirement of recycling facilities throughout the country and the Deposit Law, which also served as an economic incentive. In addition, the Government provides ongoing support for the cycle, and among other things it is possible to note the intensive activity to promote the issue on behalf of the former Minister of Environmental Protection, Mr. Gilad Erdan.
Today the Ministry of Environmental Protection’s trend can be mentioned in the continuation of awareness raising and the implementation of a recycling program that will include a significant increase in the number of cycles in Israel to help create natural compostes for agriculture and clean electricity by recycling solid waste. Additional advantages in the solid waste cycle are prevention of continued soil contamination and the creation of new jobs.
The process is expected to take place mainly thanks to the aid packages that the various authorities will receive from the Ministry of the Environment, including the purchase of waste cans for two types of waste for public places and residential buildings, the purchase of special trucks for recycling, renovation of garbage rooms to fit the new garbage cans, The public at the time of transition to a more “green” and environmental way of thinking. It should also be noted that in the future special facilities for specific materials are expected to be added in order to increase the number of cycles.
In addition, the change in the recycling field will also include various factories and factories. Among other things, the Packaging Law is expected to pass on the matter to the factory and the importer, and will also include raising taxes for factories that will be illegally polluted. All these processes will be rewarded financially on the other hand by anyone who will meet the goals that will be placed before him.
